New Year, New Plan

Petite Perk Stamp by CTMH

My goal this year is to blog/post more! Everything I stamp, make, craft! I hope to stick with this plan, gain more followers and build my community of crafting friends. I’d love to grow my team within Close to My Heart. ❤

So today I’m sharing a cute Valentine’s card I made using a Petite Perk stamp, I like you a waffle lot. These are stamps demonstrators use as giveaways or incentives. I stamped it twice, then stamped the words. I used a past Mix-In design paper that has the same yellow as the cardstock (Canary I think). I also used the acrylic hearts, which are still available! CTMH also has pink hearts, stars, beach theme, arrows, and Disney “theme” acrylic shapes.

CYCI108 Challenge -Simple, Elegant Wedding Card

I played along with the Can You Case It Challenge 108 this week! The sketch is so simple and I loved it! Do you ever have a picture of a card in your head…but then you create it and you’re like, “Well, that didn’t turn out like I thought it would”…yeah me too. However, this card was different! I LOVE the way it turned out! It’s simple and elegant.

I used the February Paper Pumpkin kit, Hello Sunshine. SUCH a fun kit! One of Stampin’ Up’s best! I just added some Blushing Bride card stock, Basic Black card stock, It’s My Party design paper and washi tape. I used the mini heart punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch pack and punched out a little heart from the excess gold foil adhesive sheet from the kit! I also punched a Blushing Bride glimmer paper one. So cute! This is the perfect wedding card…now who’s getting married this year?? 😉

Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

And here are the products I used for this card: (One thing though, if you get the refill Paper Pumpkin kit, it will not have a stamp set or ink – but that’s OK, you can use ANY stamps you have!)

Paper Craft Crew Challenge PCCCS181 – Number of Years & Valentine’s Day

Hi Everyone!

So I’m finally participating in the challenge over at the Paper Craft Crew!  Pam, aren’t you proud of me?? My hope is to be a regular participant! Pam Staples and I go way back…well back to 2011, where we first met. We were roomies for my first Stampin’ Up! Convention year, which was such a great one. (had a little drama at the house we rented from another roommate, but we all survived! ha!)  Overall it was a great experience! That’s what I’ll always remember. We’ve been Facebook friends ever since! 🙂

This was such a cute sketch that we had to play with. I had to make an Anniversary card for my sweet friend Dixie, who’s been married 33 years today! She is the sweetest little lady and makes beautiful hand-knit items. If you need a special hand-knit gift, she’s your lady! Check out her site HERE. (I’m working on her website – trying to make it better, still in the works!)

I love this stamp set Number of Years and the matching Large Number framelits. Even though my framelits are on backorder and still in the mail! You can’t really tell I “fussy” cut the 3’s can you?? Ugh, such a pain lol. I’ll be making more birthday and anniversary cards when I get the framelits! 😉 I just love this color combo though…and thanks for the great sketch Pam!

Happy Valentine’s Day too! It’s funny how the dynamics of a relationship change. Now instead of a quiet, romantic dinner for two, it ended up being a loud, fast paced spaghetti dinner for 4! It was great and fun spending the time with my loves…just not your typical V-day dinner. Even though we had a cartoon on in the car on the way, my son still fell asleep! (He’d gone all day without a nap) So when we got there my husband carried him in and he was a little cranky. He perked up though, especially after the offer of a little Sprite.

And of course I had to include a picture of THIS face….and a little selfie action. Not sure why my husband didn’t get the wear pink or red memo…

Thanks for stopping by! And Happy Valentine’s Day!

Here’s what I used to make my card:

Good Morning! Shhh kids still sleeping…

Yes, it is almost 8:30AM and my 2 kids are still sleeping. (3-1/2 year old and 2 year old) I get a lot of friends asking me, do you wake a sleeping child? No! Why poke a sleeping bear? More on this in a minute…

So this morning, I set my alarm for 7:15AM. It went off, I grabbed my phone like I was going to get up, then stretched, curled back up and closed my eyes. I rested for what seemed like 5 minutes, but it was actually an hour! Oh man, there goes my blogging time. However, I got up, made my coffee and got the kid’s milks ready. Back to the keyboard I go and here I am typing away and it is 9AM. I feel blessed. Relaxed. So back to the question, do I wake the kids? So they are “sleeping in” a little, don’t bother them. Enjoy sipping your coffee for one minute and just breathe. Because you and I both know that it is short-lived. 😉

(Enter kid #1)

I’ll keep writing until I have to make breakfast, but I just wanted to say some more about this. So back to waking them…why wake them if their bodies are telling them to sleep? So, they will get a little off schedule. That’s ok! I know my son was very tired from going to a Monster Truck show with daddy last night. He didn’t nap yesterday and woke up at about 9am and went to sleep on his way home about 9pm. That’s a LONG day for a 3-1/2 year old so I know his little body needs that rest.

My daughter is teething or growing because she has been extra feisty lately. So I know that any extra sleep will help her. If I were to wake either of them, there would be sadness, confusion, whiny children and then an irritated mommy. Why cause all that? 🙂

Instead, we have 2 adorable “quiet” toddlers, a calm mommy getting fueled up for another busy day. There’s a load of laundry to do, dishes to put away and a possible grocery trip. However, it’s pretty rainy out and as you know that would not make it a fun trip for mommy or the toddlers. Hmmm…I wonder if I can get what I need on Amazon Prime Now. Have you tried it? WOW, it’s amazing. No fee, (except for the $100/year Prime Membership), optional tip for the driver and 2 hours later you have your order. I’ve used it several times and I’m spoiled! I think I could find something to order everyday 😉 Anyway, it’s only available in major cities right now so you might not be able to try it, but if you get a chance definitely give it a go!

Ok #2 is awake now and I’m ready for today!

Have a great, restful day!

Charlene 🙂

Family, Life, Living, Love, Writing

Saying Goodbye…

On Saturday my family and I said goodbye to my Aunt Linda. She was my mother’s cousin and they were very close having grown up together and even had their wedding anniversaries only 3 years apart. Their children very close in age. She was my “Auntie” out of respect and love. It came as quite a shock when I found out she had terminal liver cancer only a few short weeks ago. Then we found out she passed away August 1st.

Everything happened so quick. We are still in shock. I’m so saddened that we lost her too soon. She had so much life left to live. I made a card for the family using the Flower Patch stamp set and the Flower Fair framelits.

While at the funeral reception I had the pleasure to finally meet Laura Vegas! Crazy small world that she is part of our extended family! It was neat to talk to her and ask her about her latest scrapbooking and designing adventures! Even though I felt silly I had to ask for a picture with her. After all, she is family 😉 We had a lovely chat with her, me and my sister, Caroline. We are both eager to get our blogs off the ground and she had some great insight! I’ll be following her blog for sure for lots of inspiration.

Even though it was a very sad day, it brought family closer together. It made me also start thinking. What if tomorrow was my last day here? Would I be ready? Would my family and children know how much I love them? I decided I must write letters to my children and my husband as soon as possible and tuck them away. Yes it is sad to think about it, but no one knows the hour that their time will come.

On the way home we had to stop at our old family favorite, King Eggroll. We used to frequent the Berryessa location in San Jose many an occasion for dim sum and eggrolls. If you live in the Bay Area and you have never had a King Eggroll, stop what you are doing and head there now. 😉 You’ll thank me. We got the usual dumplings (dim sum) and decided to take a fun family selfie because my parents and us siblings are hardly ever together with no spouses or kids!

Here’s to my Aunt Linda and to anyone else that has lost someone….

It’s been a long day without you my friend
And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
We’ve come a long way from where we began
Oh, I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again
Why’d you have to leave so soon?
Why’d you have to go?
Why’d you have to leave me when I needed you the most?
‘Cause I don’t really know how to tell you
Without feeling much worse
I know you’re in a better place
But it’s always gonna hurt
Carry on
Give me all the strength I need to carry on
It’s been a long day without you my friend
And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
We’ve come a long way from where we began
Oh, I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again
How do I breathe without you
I’m feeling so cold
I’ll be waiting right here for you
Till the day you’re home
Carry on
Give me all the strength I need to carry on
So let the light guide your way
Hold every memory as you go
And every road you take will always lead you home
It’s been a long day without you my friend
And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
We’ve come a long way from where we began
Oh, I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again
